Surgery Support Service for Primary Care Veterinary Clinics

After completing her veterinary degree, Dr Melissa moved to California during which time she worked for a large chain of hospitals as a regional traveling surgeon, servicing over 20 clinics in the east bay area. During this time, she not only performed some of the more complex primary-care level surgeries, but also helped train several of their junior vets to improve their surgical confidence and competency. Now that Dr Melissa is back home, she is able to offer this same surgical support service for primary care veterinary clinics in the greater Montreal and surrounding area.

Surgical support can come in the form of temporary or regular replacement coverage, depending on your clinic’s needs. Where, in conjunction with your existing support staff, Dr Melissa would perform a wide variety of primary-care level surgeries for your patients. Please note that I am a veterinarian with surgical experience, not a board certified surgeon.  At this time, I do not perform surgeries that require specialized equipment or intensive postoperative overnight monitoring.  This includes oropharyngeal surgeries such as soft palate resections, as these have a higher risk for respiratory compromise in the hours following the surgery due to post-operative inflammation.  Surgeries such as these should only be performed where round-the-clock & overnight care is readily available such as at referral and emergency hospitals, and ideally by board certified surgical specialists. – Dr Melissa Choucroun
